1.
last night, in the privacy of the gathering of shame and modesty, the beloved was illuminating the assembly,
Before her, the candle was melting with shame, and the candle wick had become the thorn in the candle's robe.
(The beauty and its requisites to be the members of gathering.)
(The lantern wanted to somehow remove the candle from its embrace, and place the beloved in its heart.)
(She always illuminates the gathering. So candles and lanterns are outshone. Therefore they have a thorn in their robe.)

2.
In every direction around the lover's place of execution, a grove of henna has sprung up,
Seeing this the lover had such a longing to kiss the beloved's feet that when in life this desire was not fulfilled.
(Henna grows up from the lover's dust so that in this way he might reach the feet of beloved someday.)
(A killing was done by longing, the killing of the lover by his unbearable longing for foot-kissing.)

3.
I have never seen any result of love, except that longings have been murdered,
When their hearts have met, they took on the aspect of a lip of regret.
(One heart of the lover's, and one of the beloved's, both come together and become a lip of regret.)
(No matter how much humans love each other, their solitude is inescapable.)

4.
How can I sufficiently praise the relief of freedom from the illness of grief,
In the illness of grief, I always dined on the heart's blood, and never bothered to wrestle with chyme or such things.
(Whatever I ate, it was without chyme, and became the blood of liver.)
(I can not eat normally, no worries for digestion, death is the true relief.)
